Hi, I’m Hannah.
… and I’ve always loved printmaking.
Without even realizing it, so many souvenirs and pieces of art in my home are prints. I’ve always been creative, with a need to draw, paint, express myself with marks and colour. A few years ago, I picked up a lino cutter, a softcut block and some ink, and I was hooked.
I love the quality of marks from printmaking, and I love the puzzle of working backwards — both cutting white into black and figuring out how to add colour in reverse before you even get carving. Printmaking feels like a meditation: the rhythm of the manual process forces you to slow down, pay attention and be present in the moment.
My art is endlessly inspired by my experiences of the beautiful landscapes around me, and I strive to capture a sense of the wonder I feel in nature in all my work. I use my sketches to create concepts for my prints, and create all my art by hand in my studio. I primarily work in linocut, but often combine techniques such as linocut, silkscreen and watercolor on paper.
